Unmasking with the Values Based Integration Process

Introducing Our New Blog Writers

As I wrote last week, there are changes afoot around here, and all of them are being driven by a desire to make it easier for you to access information about the Unmasking/VBI (Values Based Integration) Process.

To that end, two of the wonderful humans who have completed the coaching training and are working regularly with clients using this tool have agreed to start writing blogs for us on a semi-regular basis. You’ll also likely meet them on our social media pages on facebook, twitter and instagram. So today I want to take a moment to introduce the two of them. (I’ll put them in alphabetical order so there’s no question here of favouritism or anything else!)

Erin (she/her) is a recovery coach, author, and speaker specializing in helping people with attachment wounds find genuine joy, fulfillment, and wholeness in their lives. Erin earned her PhD in Family Relations and Human Development and trained clinically in family systems, trauma, and relational dynamics. She was diagnosed as neurodivergent as an adult, well after the burnout from masking and over-compensating for perceived “limitations” had set in. She is passionate about helping others recover from burnout and unmask from the legacy that complex trauma can have on their lives so that they can experience safety, agency, autonomy and embodiment.

Seren (they/them) is an ADHD and Autism Life Coach, not because they have their life figured out but because they don’t. Trained as and ADHD Coach through the ADD Coaching Academy and in the VBIP with Powered by Love, they use an embodied, autonomy-focused approach to coaching to share the compassionate curiosity they are slowly and painstakingly learning to extend to themselves with others. As a movement artist and pole dancer, they are passionate about exploring neurodivergent embodiment and how to move with our bodies rather than against them in their practice and creative work. Their goal is to facilitate a compassionate partnership in which every client is the expert in their own body and mind.

I’ve had the chance to get to know both Erin and Seren over the past few months, and to read some of the blog posts that will be coming from both of them in the coming weeks and I can’t wait for you to get to know them better, and to let them help me flesh out what exactly the Unmasking/VBI Process is, how it works in real life, and why they are now using it so consistently with their clients.

If you’re interested in learning more about coaching training, you can find out more here or go ahead and register now for our training August 10-11, 2023.

About the program

In 2017 I was newly self-diagnosed with atypical autism, struggling with burnout, and striking out when it came to therapists who could address the issues I was facing. At the same time, I was building skills around life coaching, shame reduction, and trauma-informed therapy for work. Gradually I realized that what I needed – an embodied, autonomous, agency-driven coaching approach to unmasking – was not something I was going to find “out there”, but something I was going to need to create if I wanted to recover my life. This was the moment the Values Based Integration Process was born.

Having developed the program for myself – and having seen the incredible results it brought in my own life – I began to use it with coaching clients. The results were out of this world!

After conversations with Dr. Devon Price, the technique was featured in his book Unmasking Autism. With it, came interest in the technique and the decision was made to begin training coaches and therapists to help make this toolkit more readily available.
